Tura, Aug 8: Shock and anger have swept through Tura after miscreants vandalised Sampalgre Lower Primary School for two consecutive nights this week.

The act left blood-stained underwear, urinated school uniforms, and vulgar graffiti inside classrooms, raising serious concerns about the safety of children and growing drug-related activity in the region.
The incidents occurred on August 5 and 6. On the first night, miscreants broke into the school and tampered with learning materials, scattering books and attempting to steal packed school uniforms. But what unfolded on the second night left the local community horrified.
Using rocks to break the classroom lock, the intruders returned with more malicious intent. Teachers arriving on Thursday morning were horrified to find blood-stained underwear on a teacher’s desk, another pair hanging from the whiteboard, uniforms soaked in urine, and foul language scrawled across the boards using students’ colouring supplies.

“This wasn’t just mischief — this was deliberate desecration,” said one teacher. “We had just received new books and supplies. It’s heartbreaking to see them defiled like this.”
This, in fact, isn’t an isolated incident. Teachers revealed that in previous weeks, they had found whiskey bottles, urine in corners of classrooms, and even human faeces inside dustbins and on the floor. Many suspect that drug addicts may be using the school premises during the night.
An FIR has been filed at the nearest police station, and local authorities have seized all materials left behind. Investigators have confirmed that the area is part of the so-called “Golden Triangle” — a zone increasingly linked to drug use and trafficking, raising alarm about broader societal issues seeping into educational spaces.

“This is a school for young children, a place meant for learning,” said another teacher. “These repeated intrusions send a terrifying message. I urge parents to watch over their children — know where they are, and what influences they may be exposed to.”
The incident has also reignited fears over a growing trend of lawlessness targeting educational institutions. Just days earlier, St. Xavier’s School in Tura was pelted with stones, and seven vehicles were damaged in a similar attack.
Local residents and community leaders have strongly condemned the Sampalgre incident and called for immediate action from the police, better night patrolling, and stricter monitoring of known hotspots for drug activity.
“This cannot be allowed to continue,” said a member of the School Managing Committee. “Today it’s our school. Tomorrow it could be another. The authorities must act before this spirals out of control.”
