Cattle thief lynched in Garo village

Tura, Oct 1: A cattle thief was beaten seriously by villagers who caught him early on Friday morning, leading to his death in South West Garo Hills district.

Police received information at Betasing outpost that one cattle thief was apprehended at Adugre village by the villagers.

Immediately a police team left for Adugre village, but on reaching the spot they found one person lying on the ground with grievous injuries.

He was shifted to hospital for immediate care and medical attention, but doctors declared him brought dead.

Initial enquiry revealed that the man was caught stealing three cattle from Rongsang Ajirigri village. He was caught and trashed by villagers and the cattle recovered.

The accused has been identified as one Manik Lal, age 49 years, a resident of Chengurchar, under Mankachar Police Station, South Salmara District.

An Inquest and post mortem was conducted on the body and the matter has been taken up for investigation by police.
