Shillong, Jan 29: The Foundation stone for the Construction of the Wahiajer Multi-Sports complex, West Jaintia Hills was laid on Friday by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the presence of Dy CM Prestone Tynsong, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Banteidor Lyngdoh along with the Minster I/c of Urban Affair Sniawbhalang Dhar.

“We have the talent, we have the youngsters who desire to take up sports as a career, but due to lack of infrastructure, lack of proper training many dreams are left unfulfilled”, lamented Chief Minister in his speech.
Conrad in his speech reminded the people that during the previous government, Sportsman who has brought medals for the State at both the National and International level would only receive Rs 7000 from the State Government, but under the MDA government, the thousand rupees has been converted to lakhs. This boosts the spirits of the sportsperson, said Conrad.
The construction of Wahiajer Multi-Sports complex in West Jaintia Hills is being funded by State Plan Scheme 2021-22 and through the Sports Authority of India Khelo India Infrastructure scheme.
The proposed duration in completion of the project is 18 months with the Total Value of INR 24,97,11,000/- (Twenty four crores, ninety-seven lakhs and eleven thousand).
This state of an art Multi-Sports Complex is set to constructed with sub-base and AIFF approved synthetic Football turf with 8 lanes AFI approved synthetic athletics track. Team changing rooms, officials’ rooms, office space will also be constructed within the Sports Complex.
The Wahiajer Multi-Sports Complex will hold a seating gallery and VIP’s enclosure of approximately 2000-3000 of seating capacity.
