Tura, Nov 18: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday said education is a challenging sector and the government has been working towards transformative changes in the sector through streamlining and informative measures.
Sangma made this statement after the inauguration of the newly constructed Mount Hermon English School building at Mebitpara near Dalu.
CM Sangma also said that education is a focussed sector for the government.
“Though it is a challenging sector we are working towards transformative changes in the sector through streamlining and reformative measures benefiting not only the students but also the teachers and all stakeholders in the education sector,” Sangma said.
He also elaborated on the features of the FOCUS+ and the registration process urged all to register in the new format FOCUS+.
CM Conrad K Sangma, shared that it is a very special day as it is for the first time that his name and is wife’s name who is the local MLA, are together on the commemorative inaugural plaque.
The new school building has been constructed with financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) – NGO Category, sanctioned for the year 2024–25, with a total amount of Rs. 5,96,000 allocated through the Dalu C&RD Block.
“I think this is a moment to be cherished making this occasion more special,” he said.
He also said that the program is the beginning step towards fulfilling the promises made by the MLA to bring development to the area. Expressing happiness in inaugurating the school building funded by CMDSF, he said,
“Education is a holistic approach developing a child academically, spiritually, mentally and physically and I am confident that this school will play an important role in nurturing education for the children of Mebitpara and nearby areas,” Sangma said.
Talking about developmental projects for Gambegre and its adjoining areas the Chief Minister particularly stressed on the Ampati-Purakhasia road and informed the gathering that the road is 28 kms.
“We have sanctioned Rs 7 Cr 46 lakhs under the state scheme for 0-4 kms stretch of the road and 505 of the work is completed, from the 5th-20th km Rs 13 Cr 78 lakhs is sanctioned under PMGSY and 15% of the work is completed, for the last stretch form the 21st-28th km Rs 66 Cr is funded by the World Bank and the last stretch cannot be completed under the state or the central scheme,” he said.
He also informed that he is personally monitoring and reviewing the construction of the road.
Guest of Honour Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, MLA of 56 Gambegre (ST), also addressed the gathering and thanked the people of the village for the support that they have given her and said, “Though this is my first meeting with you I am aware of the needs and concerns of the village and I will do my best it address them,” she said.
