Acknowledging that the problem of dangling cables has persisted for years, the Chief Minister said the clean-up cannot be completed immediately but must begin now.
“This has been a long-standing issue, and while it cannot be resolved overnight, we have to start somewhere,” he said.
With Shillong set to host the National Games, Sangma said the government is committed to upgrading the city’s aesthetics for visitors and residents.
“With the National Games approaching, we are committed to improving the city’s appearance through a phased, practical approach,” he stated

The Chief Minister called on all agencies involved to cooperate in the exercise to ensure Shillong presents a cleaner look during the sporting event.
“Call upon all stakeholders to work with us to improve the aesthetic of our city and make the Games a memorable experience for our guests,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, officials from the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), and representatives of cable operators, DTH providers and internet service providers.
