Shillong, Sept 15: Health Minister James K. Sangma on Thursday informed the Assembly that so far 33% of physical progress and 17% financial progress has been achieved in the construction of the Tura Medical College.
He said the scheduled date to complete the project was on January 27, 2021, but because of various reasons including Covid pandemic, the progress of the construction was affected.
“As sought by the construction company, we have given extension to complete the project till February 7, 2023,” James added.
The total project cost for the Tura Medical College is Rs 243.82 crore, out of which Rs 172 crore is to be provided by Government of India.
“So far, Rs 41 crore has been billed which comes to a total of 17%,” he said.

With regards to the issue raised by Nongkrem legislator Lambor Malngiang on the status of the Shillong Medical College, James said that after cancellation of the MoU, the slate is wiped clean and the government is inviting new parties for PPP mode to start the Shillong Medical College.
He informed that the government has allotted 50 acres of land in the New Shillong Township as the new site for setting up of the project.
