Guwahati, June 20: In recognition of his contributions to youth development and unwavering support for the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Cotton University, Assam, was formally conferred the rank of ‘Honorary Colonel’ and appointed ‘Colonel Commandant’ in the NCC on Friday. The prestigious Rank Pipping Ceremony took place at the university campus.
The Government of India bestowed this honour upon Prof. Deka, acknowledging his exceptional efforts in fostering youth development and his consistent encouragement of NCC activities. Notably, he is the sole Vice Chancellor in the entire North Eastern Region (NER) to receive this distinct recognition in 2025.
The ceremony was attended by prominent NCC dignitaries, including Brig Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati; Col Ajay Kumar Sharma, Commanding Officer, 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC; and Wg Cdr Huvey Upadhyaya, SC, Commanding Officer, 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC, Guwahati. The three officers jointly performed the ceremonial pipping of ranks on the Vice Chancellor. A certificate from the Director General NCC (DGNCC) and a DO letter were also formally presented.
NCC cadets from both the 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC and the 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC were present in large numbers, witnessing the proud moment. The event featured a well-coordinated ceremonial sequence, including anchoring by cadet Master of Ceremonies, showcasing the discipline, enthusiasm, and pride inherent within the NCC community.
