Curfew extended in West Garo Hills till March 14; Four-hour relaxation on March 13

Tura, March 12: The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills has extended the curfew across the entire district amid the prevailing law and order situation following recent incidents of violence and disturbance to public peace.

According to an order issued by District Magistrate Vibhor Aggarwal, the curfew imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) will remain in force from 12:00 AM on March 13 until 6:00 AM on March 14, unless withdrawn earlier.

During this period, residents will not be allowed to move outside their homes within the limits of West Garo Hills district.

However, the administration has announced a four-hour relaxation from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on March 13 to allow residents to purchase essential commodities such as food items and medicines.

The order further states that all educational institutions, banks, commercial establishments, markets, offices and other business establishments will remain closed during the curfew period. Only essential services, including hospitals, pharmacies, emergency services, utilities and other services specifically permitted by the district administration, will be allowed to operate.

Law enforcement agencies, Executive Magistrates and police officials have been directed to strictly enforce the curfew and action will be taken against anyone found violating the order under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant provisions of law.
