Tura, January 21: The Superintendent of Police (SP), West Garo Hills, Abraham T. Sangma, on Tuesday informed the media that eight persons have so far been arrested in connection with the killing of Dilseng M. Sangma, which took place at Goalgaon in the Rajabala area.
Addressing the media, the SP asserted that the police would leave no stone unturned to apprehend all absconding persons involved in the crime. He assured that intensive operations are underway to track down the remaining accused.
The SP further stated that the overall law-and-order situation in the district remains peaceful and under control, including the border areas. “There has been no untoward incident so far. However, the police are closely monitoring the situation, and if any issue arises, it will be dealt with promptly,” he said.
Among the eight arrested, the SP revealed that a quarry owner and a sawmill owner are also included. He added that all necessary precautionary measures have been taken and that senior police officials and higher authorities are continuously monitoring the developments.
The SP also informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted under the leadership of SDPO, Dadenggre, R.A. Sangma. He credited the dedicated efforts and coordinated investigation of the SIT for the successful arrest of the eight accused so far.
Responding to queries regarding public demands on social media to reveal the identities and faces of the arrested persons, SP Abraham T. Sangma clarified that as per Supreme Court and High Court guidelines, the faces of accused persons cannot be shown. He cautioned that such actions could hamper the investigation and violate legal provisions.
