Guwahati, April 13: In a major blow to cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 52.67 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth Rs. 52.67 crore from a truck on the outskirts of Aizawl, Mizoram, during a late-night operation on April 11.

The contraband, packed in 53 brick-sized packets bearing markings like “3030 Export Only” and “999” with diamond symbols, was ingeniously hidden within the folds of a tarpaulin cover on a 12-wheeler truck. Field tests confirmed the tablets contained methamphetamine.
The truck, registered in Nagaland, had no declared goods when intercepted. It had previously transported cement from Meghalaya to Champhai before reaching Zokhawthar—a key border town near the Indo-Myanmar frontier—where the drugs were allegedly loaded. It was heading toward Tripura when DRI officials acted on intelligence and halted the vehicle.
Both the driver and his assistant were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Preliminary investigations suggest the meth tablets were smuggled in from Myanmar via Zokhawthar.

This seizure adds to the growing tally of methamphetamine intercepted by DRI in the region, bringing the total to 148.50 kg since January 2025. Officials say this operation underscores the agency’s continued efforts to dismantle transnational drug networks operating in India’s Northeast.
