Tura, October 27: Eddy’s Kitchen, a restaurant focused on promoting authentic traditional Garo cuisine, officially celebrated its grand opening on Monday at Rongkon, Tura.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, who inaugurated the restaurant, along with prominent cultural figures and invitees including Pastor Rev. Abhik D. Arengh, Associate Pastor, Rongkon Baptist Church and Administrator Jumang Nokap Center; Dabo M. Marak NPYF National President and Jasper P Marak, Retd. Deputy Director, DSYA.
Eddy D Marak, chef and owner of the eatery promises a traditional dining experience, featuring classic recipes such as Wak Bibik Bika Song•tata, Matchu Tangsek Pura and Na•kam We•tepa and a variety of slow-cooked delicacies like Wak Brenga/We•sroma and Lokal Do•o Brenga/We•sroma.
The restaurant’s mission is to offer a true taste of Garo culture’s culinary traditions, prepared using locally sourced ingredients, and ensure that the people and tourists can connect with the rich Garo heritage through food. Eddy’s Kitchen is now open daily for lunch and dinner service
Speaking to reporters during the inauguration, Thomas A. Sangma, expressed his delight at inaugurating Eddy’s Kitchen. He stated that such initiatives will go a long way in preserving the ethnic cuisines and culinary heritage of the Garo community. He added that the restaurant will also provide tourists an opportunity to experience authentic Garo dishes and appreciate the region’s unique food culture.
Eddy Marak, the owner of Eddy’s Kitchen, shared that his primary goal in opening the restaurant was to offer genuine Garo cuisine, distinct from the regular dishes commonly available in the market. He emphasized that the restaurant aims to become a cultural and culinary hub, allowing both locals and visitors to savour the true taste of Garo Hills.
