Shillong, Dec 11: The employees of 108 service under the banner of All EMRI Worker Union (AEMRIWU) on Saturday have voiced out their demands to the state government which include: to increase the salary of the EMRI workers and immediately terminate the contract with GVK EMRI, and take over the emergency services.
Speaking to reporters in Shillong, President of AEMRIWU Microlena Syiemlieh said the union will give two weeks time for the government to meet their demands else the union will start off with protest and agitations. “We have been demanding for more than two years now, we have submitted our memorandum to the former Health Minister and the present Health Minister…we hope they take our demand seriously, else we will be in the streets with our demands”.
“We have no faith with the GVK, they have been feeding us with their lies… therefore, we urge the government to terminate the contract and to take over the emergency services,” added Syiemlieh.
“GVK has broke all norms and regulations signed with the Government, that’s why the Government should revoke the contract…we have rendered our services but received no benefits” said Joseph Pyngrope, the Public Secretary of All EMRI Worker Union.
If their demands are not met within these two weeks time, they will have no option but to come out to the streets, added Pyngrope.
