Tura, Oct 25: The Garo Students Union(GSU) of Karukol unit of South Garo Hills stated that it is essential and mandatory to procure TNT (Trading for Non-Tribal’s) from the GHADC by the Non-Tribals to carry out any business activities here in Garo Hills.
“On October 23, 2025, the Garo Students Union, Karukol made a surprise visit to Balkal Bazaar (weekly Market), Karukol to check the Non-Tribals who came from the neighboring State Assam for business purposes has no valid documents from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Tura. Upon cognizing, the Union is quite shocked and surprise to assimilate as why these Non-Tribal’s are doing business here without valid documents from the District Council?” said Francis R Marak, general secretary of Garo Students Union, Karukol regional unit.
He said, “These Non-Tribals can be found in Nengkong market (on Friday) every week and can be found in Emangre Market (on Saturday) weekly market,”.
“It is essential and mandatory to procure TNT from the GHADC by the Non-Tribals to carry out any business activities here in Garo Hills. The Union has learnt that these Non-Tribals from Assam were coming to rural pockets of Garo Hills to capture the weekly market,” he said.
He added, “Why is the district council authorities blind to see this? Why such non-tribal’s found such loopholes in the system? It is indeed a sad state to figure out those non-tribals is taking an advantage of such loopholes and is carrying out business activities without any fear,”.
“It is such a shame that even the Garos were bound to pay professional tax to the district council but these non-tribals were doing business without having TNT which was mandatory for them to have these documents,” Marak said.
