Kohima, July 2: The Nagaland government has decided to appoint first-time MLA A. Pongshi Phom as Advisor to the Chief Minister on matters related to Airways and Railways.
An official notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat on Thursday stated that the appointment of Phom will come into force immediately.
As the Advisor to the Chief Minister on Airways and Railways, Phom would be giving suggestions and views to the department, which are relevant to matters, referred to him by the department, before any proposal is put up before the Minister-in-charge.
Phom represents the Longleng constituency and was elected on an NCP ticket. Later he joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party before merging with Naga People’s Front and he now represents the NPF in the state assembly.
The state government believes that with the new post, the state would be able to accelerate projects of airways and railways in the state for better air and rail connectivity and boost its economy, promote tourism and help in integration with neighbouring states.
As the Advisor, Phom would also facilitate and coordinate with the Centre government for carrying out the development projects.
