Imphal, Oct 5: In a major political development, BJP legislators from Manipur have begun camping in New Delhi to push the party’s central leadership for the revival of an elected government in the state — eight months after President’s Rule was imposed.
Sources confirmed that former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has reached the national capital to lead the initiative, accompanied by several BJP MLAs from the valley region. The move signals growing restlessness among party legislators, who are keen to see the return of a popular government ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13, 2025, following months of ethnic violence, and was extended for another six months in August.
Although the state remains under central rule, the Assembly has not been dissolved and continues under suspended animation — keeping alive hopes for a political revival.
On Saturday afternoon, Biren Singh flew to Delhi on an IndiGo flight, along with MLAs H. Dingo and Th. Robindro and Dr S. Ranjan. Former minister Govindas Konthoujam and Hill Areas Committee chairman Dinganglung Gangmei are also expected to join the group later.
Speaking to reporters at Imphal Airport before departure, Biren Singh said, “We are meeting central leaders to urge for the early formation of a popular government in Manipur. Discussions will also focus on finding solutions to the ongoing crisis and addressing the issues faced by internally displaced persons.”
Once in Delhi, the BJP legislators are expected to seek meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, given the Prime Minister’s packed schedule, it remains uncertain whether an audience will be granted.
Party insiders said Biren Singh, who maintains a close rapport with Amit Shah, is likely to first seek an appointment with the Home Minister before holding wider consultations with other top leaders.
