Garo Hills hospital patients treated by AYUSH physician after doctors sent for training

TURA, Sept 7: Patients and their families have complained about being provided treatment by AYUSH physicians and nurses after the two doctors posted at Bhaitbari CHC hospital in West Garo Hills were sent on over a weeklong training without any substitution being provided for patients.

The public of Bhaitbari town in Rajabala area have strongly objected to the failure of the authorities to ensure a trained medical officer was placed at the disposal of the hospital during the time when the two doctors were dispatched for training.

They complained that nine days ago a pregnant woman died along with her unborn child after being brought to the hospital.

On September 6th, the accountant of the local Kazi and Zaman College was brought to the hospital senseless after suffering from high blood pressure and a history of previous stroke attacks. The family and relatives were shocked to find that there was no medical doctor present and he had to be treated by the AYUSH physician, who under medical norms is not a trained MBBS doctor.

The Medical officer of Bhaitbari hospital has clarified that the college staffer Sofiur Islam was indeed treated by an AYYUSH physician and a trained nurse with necessary medication to stabilise him before forwarding him for referral treatment outside.

In the case of the deceased pregnant woman, 30 year old Jebun Nessa (30 years) of Sidakandi village, the medical officer 32nd week of pregnancy leading to her tragic death.

They acknowledged that there was no medical doctor available in the hospital for two consecutive days- 5th and 6th September.

The posted doctors in Bhaitbari CHC sent for training are Dr. Pritom Das, at Maternity and Child hospital, Tura for training on practical NBSU 29th August to 7th of September, Dr Bidanchi Marak for training on BeMOC September 5th to 10th.
