Dibrugarh, Aug 7: A 7-year-old girl tragically died on Wednesday in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district after being bitten by a black spider.
The incident took place in the Panitola area when the child was opening a bamboo basket containing eggs. “We took her to a nearby pharmacy for treatment after her hand had swollen badly. We rushed her to Tinsukia Civil Hospital, but the doctors declared her dead on arrival,” said the grieving father.
Reports indicate that the spider bit her on the hand, leading to rapid swelling and complications. The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing issue of human-wildlife conflict, often linked to environmental changes.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case of unnatural death. A forensic examination of the bite is underway, and authorities are collecting samples from the area where the incident occurred.
