SHILLONG, JUN 29: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Monday said the state government respects the decision taken by the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) in the case involving alleged harassment of a woman cricketer, adding that the action followed due diligence and a formal inquiry.
“This issue was first taken up by the MCA and later referred to the Women’s Commission as well,” Shylla told reporters.
He pointed to the autonomous functioning of cricket bodies.
“The BCCI and the MCA function as autonomous bodies. Most of their funding comes from the BCCI,” he said.
“So as a government, we respect their decisions. We have also seen that due diligence was done and an inquiry was conducted. The report they have given is based purely on that inquiry,” Shylla said.
“From my point of view, they have done their part. The decision taken is based on their findings,” he added.
