SHILLONG, JAN 21: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has denied any involvement in the death of a drug addict, saying it is being falsely implicated in the case due to jealousy over its activities.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, HYC general secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit said he was summoned by the Sadar police in connection with the death, but there is no mention of the organisation’s involvement in the FIR.

“There are people who are instigating and alleging that we are involved, as they are jealous of the HYC’s activities,” Basaiawmoit said.
He added that the police have assured him that there is no evidence pointing to the HYC’s involvement in the assault that led to the death.
The deceased was assaulted at MUDA on November 23, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries at Nazareth Hospital on December 4, 2025.

Basaiawmoit alleged that some individuals are instigating the family members, falsely implicating the HYC.
“We will meet the family members later,” he said, adding that the police are still investigating the matter.
