SHILLONG, MAR 18: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) Jalaphet Circle inspected the site of the proposed government college at Jalaphet Bri-Sumer village on Wednesday, saying groundwork had started and hailing a milestone for local higher education.

“Seeing machinery on the ground shows the government is answering a long‑standing demand,” president of JNC Jalaphet Circle Andy Bareh said after the visit.

He said the council welcomed the MDA government’s commitment and thanked 5‑Sutnga Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla for pushing the project.

Bareh urged the contractor to maintain “diligence, quality and efficiency,” adding that delays or shortcuts would betray community hopes.

The JNC leader said the college could transform access to higher education in East Jaintia Hills and uplift standards across Meghalaya, and pledged to monitor progress.
