KSU seek Hek’s intervention for appointment of VC in NEHU

Shillong, Jan 27: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has sought the intervention of AL Hek, cabinet Minister and the leader of the BJP Legislative party for the appointment of Professor Sherwin May Sungoh as the new Vice-Chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

“We would like to remind him about the new Vice-Chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University, since the term of the VC has expired and since 2020,” KSU education cell informed after meeting Hek at Secretariat, Shillong.

Demanding a local indigenous VC for NEHU, they said, “If a vice-chancellor comes from different university it takes time for them to understand various sentiment and problems that the university is facing, so now it’s time to have new VC from indigenous tribe to understand the problem of the people.”

“The name of Professor Sherwin May Sungoh as the next Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University who is the only candidate who has been shortlisted for the post of VC from the University,” Ruben Najiar added.

Sungoh from the Department of Education, NEHU is one among the five candidates shortlisted for the post of VC.

The KSU leaders are meeting various politicians from different political parties demanding appointment of new Vice-Chancellor of NEHU. Hek, on the other hand assured the visiting delegation that the matter is already taken up with the centre.
