Imphal, Oct 15: Over thousands of people from the Kuki-Zo community of Manipur staged a massive sit-in protest at Gamgiphai in Kangpokpi district on Sunday, seeking separate administration of the Kuki community.

Around 100 Kuki-Zo women across the district congregated at Gamgiphai this afternoon to launch the round-the-clock sit-in protest in the presence of the Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills Kangpokpi leaders.

The Kuki-Zo women will not rest until the Centre declares a separate administration. No solution No rest.

“Today, we have assembled here for our demand for a separate administration. Our demand for a separate administration is very India, and it is never against the Constitution of India and it is also not against the government of India,” said a Kuki-Zo women leader.

She said, “Our demand is separation from the biased government of Manipur, and all we want is separation from the oppression and subjugation of the Manipur government.”.

“We will continue our protest for a separate administration till our goal is not fulfilled,” she said.

She added, “The national investigation agencies such as the CBI and NIA have started investigations into different cases. So, we want equal treatment and justice. The investigations of the CBI and NIA should not be biased and free of nepotism”.

Notably, over 175 individuals belonging to the non-tribals and tribals were killed in the communal clashes that broke out on May 3, 2023.
