Shillong, Jul 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday inaugurated the Centre for Capacity Building and Empowerment of the Presbyterian Church of India, Phase I and Phase II of the project in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the deeper purpose behind the initiative, calling it not just an infrastructure milestone but a platform to transform lives and empower youth.
Speaking about his guiding philosophy of “Born to Serve,” he stated that both governance and spiritual institutions share a common mission, to serve people with dedication, humility, and commitment.

On concerns surrounding the FCRA Amendment Bill, he spoke of challenges as expressed by churches and faith-based organisations that could affect humanitarian works.
“While our paths may differ, our destination remains the same, to serve our people,” he said, reiterating the importance of solidarity in addressing complex challenges like the FCRA amendment. He further called upon citizens and faith leaders to pray and work together to ensure that institutions serving society continue to function effectively without disruption.
Highlighting the historical contributions of the Church, the Chief Minister acknowledged the pioneering role played by the Presbyterian Church in education, healthcare, and community development, even before the establishment of formal government systems.

Reaffirming the Government’s commitment, he assured support for the upcoming Phase III of the project and emphasised the vision of developing the Centre into a hub of excellence that nurtures responsible, capable, and service-oriented citizens.
He further urged all to embrace the privilege of serving others and to remain steadfast in their commitment to building a better society.
“It is an honour to get tired doing what we once prayed for,” he remarked, encouraging all to see service not as a burden, but as a blessing.
