Shillong, Aug 22: In a first for Meghalaya, five public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been installed across the state by a private dealership, offering free and round-the-clock service.
Shillong-based Queency Motors said the charging stations have been set up at Mawlai Mawiong near Frank Motors, Laitkor (Frank Motors Workshop), Keating Road (Frank Yamaha Showroom) and two locations in Nongpoh – Frank Motors and Café Coffee Day.

“This is our way of making the EV journey easier and more convenient. The best part is that charging is absolutely free, 24×7,” the company said in a statement.
A senior official from the Meghalaya Transport Department welcomed the move, calling it a “positive step by the private sector” in supporting the state’s push for clean and sustainable transport. The official added that more such public-private initiatives will be encouraged to boost EV adoption in the region.
