SHILLONG, APR 21: The state government is set to reduce the bidding rate for the new Polo market complex after failing to attract bidders despite floating tenders’ multiple times.
The market, inaugurated last year, is yet to be operationalised.
“We advertised three-four times but nobody is interested in taking part in that. So now we have to refloat again. Already three times we have floated the advertisement but no one took part in the process,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Tuesday.
He indicated that the government-fixed rate may have deterred bidders. “It seems the rate is a little bit high as fixed by the government but now we are thinking we may go down a little bit low so that interested parties will come forward,” he said.
“The Polo market is being looked after by the Shillong Municipal Board and we haven’t started operationalizing it as we are waiting for the party to come while we are doing the tendering system. We are thinking maybe we will go down a little bit on the rate,” Dhar added.
He said the process remains transparent. “The highest bidder will get. It is a very transparent system.”
Asked, the deputy chief minister said that if the revised rate still fails to draw interest, the government may change its approach.
“If nobody comes, maybe we will think of another system of how to go about it because we have to think about the local people.”
On the recently inaugurated parking lot adjacent to the additional secretariat building, Dhar said, “We are yet to decide on this on how to operate. It will be done by the department only.”
