Tura, June 13: Meghalaya is not the only state in the country that faces multiple challenges when it comes to implementing the National Education Policy 2020 and the state government has given top priority to raising the performance bar on education, says Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma.

In an exclusive interaction with leading news portal Hub News in Tura on Thursday, the Education Minister cleared the air when he said that the implementation of the NEP cannot be done all at once, and that the state must gradually face and overcome these challenges.

“Education remains the top most primary priority of our MDA government led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma,” informed Rakkam Sangma and added that the central government is providing all necessary assistance to the state.

“Certainly, there are challenges faced not only by the Institutions but also there are challenges faced by the Government and the Department. But, all these challenges are doable”, a positively charged Sangma said.

It is worth mentioning, the State of Karnataka decided to revert from the NEP (National Education Policy) 2020 recommended four-year degree programme to the traditional three-year degree programme in public universities and affiliated colleges from the academic year 2024-25.

Notably, implementation of NEP 2020 in Meghalaya and across the country is expected to bring about significant as well as major changes in the education system. The NEP 2020 aims to promote holistic development, critical thinking, and creativity among students by introducing multidisciplinary approaches and flexible learning pathways. It also emphasises the use of technology for effective teaching and learning, which will enhance access to quality education in both urban and rural areas.

However, the implementation of the NEP is still a burning topic as many institutions especially in the city have expressed their will on implementing NEP 2020 for the betterment of the students and their future but also many has raised concerns due to lack of funds that is needed and unpreparedness for the preparation of this NEP 2020.
