Shillong, June 14: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch six key road infrastructure projects worth ₹3,214 crore in Meghalaya on Monday during the North East India Infrastructure Summit & Exhibition (NEIINFRA 2026), marking one of the state’s largest connectivity initiatives in recent years.

The projects include four new National Highway works and the upgradation of two existing highway corridors aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time and strengthening economic links across Meghalaya.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that foundation stones will be laid for the projects during the summit, describing the investment as a major step towards accelerating the state’s development and prosperity.

The package includes the ₹951-crore Tura Bypass, the ₹737-crore Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge–Selsella highway stretch, the ₹564-crore Pynursla Bypass and the ₹504-crore Selsella-Goeragre road project. Upgradation works on the Shillong-Dawki road, and the Jowai Bypass will also be launched.

The project announcements come as Meghalaya hosts the North East India Infrastructure Summit & Exhibition 2026 (NEIINFRA 2026) on June 15-16, an event expected to bring together policymakers, investors, infrastructure developers, financial institutions and technology firms from across the country.

Positioned as the region’s premier infrastructure investment and policy platform, NEIINFRA 2026 will be graced by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, as the Chief Guest. The event will also be attended by Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, the host state for the summit.

The two-day summit will also bring together officials from eight Union Ministries, Chief Ministers and senior officials from Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, industry leaders, investors, infrastructure developers, financial institutions, and technology innovators to deliberate on the future of infrastructure-led growth in North East India.

Organised by the Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) in partnership with the Government of Meghalaya and Build India Foundation, the summit is being positioned as the region’s premier infrastructure investment platform.

According to FINER President Bajrang Lohia, the summit aims to catalyse investments, strengthen public-private partnerships and accelerate the development of critical infrastructure needed to enhance connectivity and economic integration across Northeast India.

More than 800 delegates are expected to attend the two-day event, including representatives from eight Union ministries, state governments of the Northeast, industry leaders, investors and infrastructure experts.

The summit will feature discussions on regional connectivity, infrastructure financing and investment opportunities across sectors such as roads and highways, tourism infrastructure, industrial infrastructure, digital connectivity, aviation and airports, and ports and waterways.
