Shillong, Oct 5: In a shocking incident, state cricketer Lakhan Singh who is representing Meghalaya in the Ranji Trophy, was assaulted by a group of unknown miscreants on Wednesday night at around 9:30 pm at Anjali petrol pump area in Shillong.
Lakhan, while narrating the incident, informed that as he was on his way to Jhalupara from his residence at Harijan Colony (Them Ïew Mawlong), when one Maruti Celerio with registration number ML-05-AA-0381 obstructed his path near the Anjali area. A group of people came out of the car and started assaulting him without even speaking a word to him.
He informed that the miscreants were under the influence of alcohol.
The Ranji cricketer has sustained injuries to his nose and mouth.
He further said that no law enforcement personnel were present in the area during the incident but concerned passersby provided Lakhan with immediate assistance, helping him wash away the bloodstains from his face.
Subsequently, Lakhan filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Cantonment Police Beat House against the assailants. However, when authorities attempted to reach out to the owner of the Maruti Celerio, he vehemently denied that the particular vehicle belongs to him.
Lakhan has urged the law enforcement agency to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for the vicious attack on him.
