Kohima, June 30: The Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) has withdrawn its proposed restrictions on the movement of government-registered vehicles within its jurisdiction after authorities assured that repair work on the damaged stretch of National Highway would begin shortly.
The decision was taken during a consultative meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Kohima B. Henok Buchem, which was attended by officials of the PWD (National Highways), representatives of the executing agency M/s Nitin Sai Construction, and members of the MVYO.
During the meeting, the Executive Engineer of PWD (NH) informed participants that the work order for repairing the sinking stretch of the highway was expected to be issued on Tuesday.

Representatives of the contractor assured that mobilisation of construction materials would begin on July 2, while repair work is scheduled to commence by July 6.
Following these assurances, the MVYO agreed to call off its proposed restrictions on government vehicles, expressing confidence that the repair work would be taken up as promised.
The meeting also stressed the need for close coordination between the district administration, the executing agency and local stakeholders to ensure the timely restoration of the affected highway and minimise inconvenience to commuters.
The sinking stretch of the highway has been a major concern for residents and road users, with locals repeatedly demanding immediate intervention to restore normal traffic movement and prevent further deterioration of the road.
