Shillong, Jan 30: In a bid to enhance revenue collection, the minister in charge of revenue, Kyrmen Shylla, said on Tuesday that the department is exploring strategies with a focus on monitoring potential leakages, particularly in the liquor sector.

The plan involves implementing computerisation to track and manage revenue from liquor sales, he added.

Shylla stated that there is no existing record of revenue leakage as of now. “Introducing computerization will allow us to identify any potential leaks, providing transparency in revenue collection,” explained Shylla.

While the initiative is currently in the pipeline and requires Cabinet approval, Shylla stated the need for financial support and that if it comes through with no complications, then the implementation will be a smooth process.

“Our vision every financial year is to increase and maintain the revenue collected,” said Shylla.

When asked about the government’s decision to legalise homemade wine, he said it has been a good initiative and has helped many of the wine makers in the state.

He stated, “We have received good feedback, and we will try to fulfil it if any support is needed. Our vision is to become one of the biggest wine suppliers in India. “The government will give free hand to people for those who want to take this wine making; from our end, we can provide them with the licence and paper work.”
