Resubelpara, Dec 9: The North Garo Hills Winter Festival burst into life on Tuesday night as the Miss A•we Beauty Pageant drew thousands to the Resubelpara mini stadium, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of culture, fashion and local talent. The high-energy event—one of the festival’s most anticipated attractions—saw 15 contestants compete across three culturally rich and creatively curated rounds.
Judges Atlanta D. Shira, Dr. Tanvi R. Marak, and Tatyana G. Momin presided over the pageant, evaluating participants on confidence, stage presence, creativity and cultural representation.
The competition opened with a dazzling Traditional Attire Round, where contestants walked the ramp in colourful Garo ensembles, each introduction reflecting the heritage and identity of the A•chik community. The display of authentic fabrics and handcrafted accessories set a deeply cultural tone for the night.
The atmosphere turned electric during the Dance Round, as contestants performed energetic numbers to roaring applause from the packed stadium. The performances showcased not only talent but the youthful vibrancy of North Garo Hills.
A standout moment came with a special presentation by the Department of Handloom and Weavers, choreographed by Lakme K. Marak. In a unique tribute to Garo craftsmanship, local weavers—who designed and stitched the garments themselves—walked the ramp wearing their own creations. Their confident stride and the stunning handwoven textiles earned loud cheers, turning the spotlight onto indigenous artisans.
The pageant culminated with the Evening Wear Round, infusing elegance and glamour into the festive night as contestants graced the stage in sophisticated outfits.
Adding to the carnival spirit were performances by local artistes Enosh and Mobit Sangma, along with a captivating solo dance by Aryan, keeping the audience entertained between rounds.
In a thrilling finale, Contestant No. 5, Cheachi Shira, was crowned Miss A•we 2025, drawing jubilant applause from supporters. Contestant No. 10, Thasa Saldambe D. Sangma, was named 1st Runner-up, while Contestant No. 6, Nikkande Amara K. Sangma, secured the 2nd Runner-up title.
