Aizawl, Oct 21: Although the Covid-19 positivity in Mizoram has fallen to 12.36% from 15.36% in the past week, the state government will continue the ‘All Mask Campaign’. Mizoram government has announced to continue the ‘All Mask Campaign’, that was scheduled to end on Wednesday, till October 31, officials said.
According to reports, the state Health Minister R. Lalthangliana announced the extension of the campaign at a virtual meeting with the Deputy Commissioners, all Chief Medical Officers and all other concerned officials of all the 11 districts on Wednesday.
In accordance with the recommendations of WHO, CDC-USA, and ICMR, the expert team recommended a symptom-based approach to conducting state contact tracing and testing. Meanwhile, The government is requesting all citizens to wear masks to work and to eat indoors as part of its ‘All Mask Campaign’.
The Health Minister highlighted the importance of continuing the “All Mask Campaign”. He stated that the campaign was launched following the advice of the state’s expert team on Covid-19 management. This was established in September in response to the increase in positive cases and deaths in the state.
Notably, the small Northeastern state recorded an alarming Covid-19 positivity ratio of 12.36 percent — the highest in India — even though a four-member multi-disciplinary central team visited the state recently and provided necessary advice.
The health officials reported that 1,14,466 people had tested positive so far and that 393 people died from the disease. The mountainous state has a recovery rate of 90.49%, compared to the national average at 98.15 percent.
According to data from the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, Mizoram’s Covid death rate is 0.34 percent, which is lower than the national average of 1.333%.
However, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday, against the national average of 1.33 per cent, Mizoram’s Covid fatality rate is 0.34 per cent, the lowest among all states in the country.
With only 11 lakh population, bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh, the Northeastern state had 10,768 active cases on Wednesday, while 1,03,305 have been recovered of the infectious disease so far.
Notably, the team, led by convener Dr. F. Lallianhlira, had recently submitted 16-point recommendations to the state government, among which an aggressive educational awareness campaign on masks was one of the key advice.
