Aizawl, July 23: Famiangi, believed to be the oldest recorded woman in Mizoram, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 22 at the remarkable age of 117. A resident of Pangkhua village in the southern Lawngtlai district, she was widely respected for her enduring spirit and longevity.
According to community records, Famiangi was born in 1908 to Huathmung (L) and Suisung (L). She was married to the late Heinawna and was the mother of eight children.

Her legacy is carried forward by a vast family of 195 descendants, including 51 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Despite her age, Famiangi remained active in community affairs and even cast her vote in the 2023 Mizoram State Assembly Elections. In recognition of her civic participation, she was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the state election commission.
Her health had begun to decline in recent months due to age-related ailments, with her condition worsening in July. Surrounded by her family and receiving dedicated home care, she passed away at 7:00 AM on Tuesday.
