Aizawl, July 13: Around 2,500 Myanmar nationals who had taken refuge in Mizoram’s Champhai district following violent clashes between the Chinland Defence Force-Hualngoram (CDF-Hualngoram) and the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) on July 5 have started returning to Myanmar since yesterday.
The intense fighting between the two armed Chin groups had triggered a fresh wave of displacement, with an estimated 2,845 people from Khawmawi and Rihkhawdar—villages along the Myanmar-Mizoram border—crossing over to Zokhawthar on July 6.
Officials said most of the displaced found shelter with relatives living in Zokhawthar, while others were accommodated in a local community hall where civil society organisations stepped in to provide food and essential supplies.
