Shillong, Aug 13: The Health Department has issued an advisory to raise awareness and guide preventive measures against Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Principal Secretary for Health, Sampath Kumar, said on Tuesday that hospitals and health facilities across Meghalaya are already prepared to handle such cases and provide proper treatment.
Confirming one recent case of GBS, Kumar clarified, “This is not the first time such cases have been reported in Meghalaya.” He stressed that there is no cause for alarm, calling such instances “part of the realities of a public health system.”

He explained that the government’s priority is to strengthen the public health response whenever such conditions are detected. “That is why the advisory has been issued,” Kumar noted. The notice urges the public to seek immediate medical attention if they experience early symptoms of GBS to prevent the situation from escalating.
