GUWAHATI, May 24: The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying will hold a major regional review meeting for the Northeast in Mizoram on May 25, with Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh set to chair discussions on fisheries, livestock and dairy development across the eight states of the region.
The high-level meeting, titled “Regional Review Meeting: Northeastern Region 2026,” will bring together ministers and senior officials from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura to assess the progress of central schemes and chart future strategies for sustainable growth and rural livelihoods.

Union Ministers of State S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian will also attend the event, which will be held in hybrid mode at Aizawl.
A major highlight of the programme will be the launch and foundation laying of fisheries projects worth around Rs 32.15 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), aimed at boosting fisheries infrastructure and self-sustaining aquaculture in the Northeast.
The ministry will also launch a baseline village-level survey to expand Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCS), release an African Swine Fever awareness film, and unveil a handbook on good pig farming practices. The event will further see the launch of MULCO Cow Ghee by the Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union Ltd and the inauguration of a Mizo Café and an FPO office-cum-sale outlet.
During the programme, the Union Minister will distribute Fisheries Kisan Credit Cards, recognise top fisheries startups and cooperatives, and interact directly with beneficiaries from the Northeastern states to understand challenges faced by the sector.

Officials said the meeting would focus on improving fish production, strengthening value chains, expanding market access and exports, and promoting scientific and sustainable farming practices across fisheries, livestock and dairy sectors.
The programme will also feature experience-sharing sessions by dairy farmers, fisheries beneficiaries and entrepreneurs supported under the National Livestock Mission Entrepreneurship Development Programme, highlighting successful grassroots livelihood initiatives from the region.
The meeting is being seen as a significant push by the Centre to strengthen the Northeast’s fisheries and livestock economy through infrastructure development, cooperative expansion, technology adoption and enhanced rural employment opportunities.
