Shillong, Feb 19: Stating that the delay in the payment of salaries is due to liabilities that had accumulated over the years, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, National People’s Party-led government has been able to clear most of the pending salaries to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) employees.
“In fact, if you look at the records, during the time period when the NPP took over we have been able to clear (the) salaries compared to (the situation) before we took over. It is an important issue and we are trying our best to resolve this problem,” Sangma said.
Further, as the GHADC employees have threatened to boycott the upcoming elections to the GHADC scheduled to be held on April 9, the chief minister said, “We are trying our best to ensure that salaries are paid to the employees. Before Christmas also, we cleared two months of salary from the government of Meghalaya side so those aspects have been there.”
Regarding the alleged corruption in the implementation of the central funds by the GHADC, Sangma said that the state government had already set up an inquiry to probe into the matter.
