Shillong , July 5: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Meghalaya State Unit, in collaboration with the NPYF Jowai Block, felicitated 137 meritorious students from the Jowai Constituency who excelled in the SSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2025.
The felicitation programme was held at the District Library Auditorium in Jowai, with local MLA and NPYF State President Wailadmiki Shylla attending as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Shylla clarified that the event had no political agenda and was not connected to any election. “This is about recognising and celebrating the hard work of students. Securing 80% or more in an examination is a remarkable achievement in itself,” he said. He congratulated all the students, thanked their teachers and parents for their support, and acknowledged the trust placed in them.
Shylla highlighted that students scoring 80% and above in SSLC and 70% and above in HSSLC were selected for the awards. Among the proud moments he shared was the success of the newly introduced Commerce stream at Jowai Government Girls Higher Secondary School, which saw one of its first batch students securing a place in the state’s Top Ten rankings.
Looking ahead, he announced that the NPYF would soon launch a Students’ Cell in Jowai Town, aimed at assisting students from rural areas with scholarships and other academic needs.
Shylla also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for announcing the upcoming Nursing College in Jowai during the Meghalaya Day celebrations. He said the college would greatly benefit local students, who would no longer need to travel to Shillong, Guwahati, or other cities to pursue nursing education.
The programme was also attended by MDCs, NPYF Jowai Unit President Samehi Laloo, and William E. Pasweth, General Secretary of NPYF West Jaiñtia Hills District, among others.
Of the 137 students felicitated, 74 were from SSLC and 63 from HSSLC, marking a proud moment for the student community of Jowai.
