Shillong, June 24: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has taken the recent Performance Grading Index (PGI) ranking in a positive stride, stating that it will only motivate the state to work harder to improve the education sector.
Despite the state’s low ranking, Sangma expressed confidence that the reforms and interventions being implemented will yield better results in the future.
Sangma acknowledged that education is a complex and sticky issue, where the impact of decisions takes time to reflect.
“Education is a very sticky issue and whatever processes or decisions we make, the impact of those decisions to come to effect or seeing the results of it take years if not months,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the reforms and interventions being implemented in the education sector, such as the adoption of CBSE books for certain subjects.
“For example, we went into the CBSE books for certain subjects, those marks for that and the reflection of those in terms of the higher PGI marks that we should get will come in now and may be in our PGI ratings that are there,” he explained.
Sangma assured that the state will not give up and will continue to work hard to improve the education sector.
“This is a big challenge for us and I assure you with this kind of reports that are coming in will just make us want to work much even harder and we will continue to work hard and ensure that we will turn this around,” he said.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that with the team working on education reforms, the state will see improvements in the PGI rankings.
“I am very confident that with the team that is working right now, the kind of results that we are seeking, the interventions that we are doing, inspite of the massive challenges that are there, these results will improve and become better,” he concluded.
