Police seize huge quantity of ammunition from Garo Hills

Williamnagar, Nov 14: In yet another breakthrough, a huge cache of ammunition suspected to be of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was recovered from Nongchram area in East Garo Hills on Saturday morning.

Police who are on a spree to clean up the region from militancy is now after the hidden ammunition of GNLA.

“Team from Rongjeng conducted search operations in Nongchram Rongdu area about 9 kilometers from Rongjeng and recovered arms and ammunitions suspected to be hidden by GNLA”, said SP Bruno Sangma.

SP told Hub News that on receiving inputs from reliable sources about the hidden ammunition in Nongchram area, the team immediately geared up acting on the inputs.

“We dispatched a team to conduct search operation in the area”, he added.

At around 3.00 pm the police team recovered 1) 7.62 mm AK =75 rounds. 2). 7.65mm = 12 rounds 3). .38mm =2 rounds 4). 9mm =11 rounds were recovered from Nongchram Rongdu area.

“The search operation is being carried out to recover more arms and ammunition. The case is being registered for further investigation,” SP added.

In the past two weeks, police has been continuous conducting counter insurgency operations across different pockets of the region.
