Shillong, May 14: Rangsakona MLA and Chairman of Khadi & Village Industries Board, Subir M. Marak, on Thursday inaugurated the Block Resource Centre at Rerapara under Samagra Shiksha, calling on communities to take ownership of the new facility and work to improve government schools in South West Garo Hills.
Addressing the gathering, Marak said the new centre would cut down logistical hurdles for field staff and bring governance closer to the grassroots.
“Earlier, BMCs had to travel long distances to submit essential data for processing, but with the establishment of the new infrastructure, administrative services had become more accessible to the people of the region,” he said.
He further urged the people to embrace the institution as their own and work together for its upkeep and development.
The MLA flagged the performance gap between private and government institutions and appealed to parents to support state-run schools.
Highlighting the need to strengthen government schools, he observed that good academic results in the district were largely confined to private institutions and stressed the importance of improving government schools.
He appealed to parents to enrol their children in government schools and assured that grievances related to education would be addressed through proper channels.
Joint Director TK Sangma said the facility would improve public interface with the department.He urged the BMC to dedicate at least one day every week for grievances and encouraged the public to treat the institution as their own and work collectively towards maintaining and improving it.
Local Nokma Harrison R Sangma, who donated the land for the centre, said the infrastructure would benefit the area. Land owner Harrison R Sangma expressed happiness in donating the land for construction of the centre and stated that the infrastructure would greatly benefit the people of the area.
