Shillong, Feb 26: The members of the Shillong Bar Association met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday to submit a memorandum, following the unfortunate incident on Saturday night when a massive fire reduced the Shillong Bar Association office to ashes.

Taking to X, the Chief Minister said, “Members of the Shillong Bar Association called on me this afternoon and apprised me of the fire incident that has damaged their office”.

The Chief Minister added that legal fraternity has submitted a memorandum, which will be examined by the appropriate department.

It may be mentioned that the Shillong Bar Association building constructed in the year 1913 is one of the oldest legal offices in the country.

It has been gutted in a devastating fire that broke out on Saturday night.

A fire that broke out shortly after 10:15 PM quickly spread across the age old wooden structure engulfing the entire office in flames.

Thousands of case files, including many dating back to the early part of the 1900s, were destroyed in the fire that razed the office.
