Must read

Shillong, April 17: Pushing for a youth centric governance and policies, social activist from Bihar, Vijay Kumar, has been on a ‘Bharat Paidal Yatra’ (journey across India on foot) since January 26, 2022, to take his message across the nation. On Saturday, he reached Shillong after traversing through almost all of the North Eastern States.

Besides empowering youth, Kumar is also seeking rationalization of politicians’ involvement in deciding the Chief Ministers and Prime Ministers and wants their election process to be directly through vote by the people instead of the present system of MLAs and MPs.

Highlighting the necessity to elect CMs and PMs directly by the people, he argued that at times CMs and PMs are pressurised by the MLAs and MPs that voted in their favour for their own interest.

For the youth, he is demanding 80% reservation for the youth in the Panchayat and the Parliament, and setting of age limit for politicians similar to government employees. He is also seeking ‘unemployment allowances’ for the unemployed youth.

In addition, he wants abolishing of double pensions to the politicians.

He is further demanding for a drug and intoxication free nation.

He has, so far, walked through the northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya. From Meghalaya, he will walk through the rest of the nation.
