Sohjer Festival from Jan 17-20 at Baridua Village in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh, Jan 10: The Sohjer Festival – the traditional ritual of the Raid Marwet – is all set to be revived by the office of the Traditional Head, with the festival scheduled to be held from January 17 to 20 at 9th Mile, Baridua Village in Ri Bhoi District.

The traditional chief of Raid Marwet, Ken Syiem, informed that the Raid Marwet is one of the traditional Raids which has always believed in traditional ritual to offer prayers to almighty for his blessings throughout the year, especially for the harvesting season.

Syiem also informed that the ritual or the ‘Sohjer’ has been stopped since 2020 after the impact of the COVID-19. But this year, the office of the Raid Marwet will revive the festival with various rituals and offering of prayers through the Basan and different traditional dances and display of the traditional dresses of the Raid. It will also hold different competitions and entertainment programmes throughout the festival.
