Star Cement and District TB Officer collaborate for food distribution event in Jaintia Hills

Shillong, Jan 30: With the aim of sensitising the public on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and the newly launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA), the office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills, in collaboration with Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, under its CSR initiatives, organised a food distribution under the Community Support Scheme for TB Patients at a programme held at Khliehriat CHC on Tuesday.

The programme was attended by the District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills, Dr. E.B.V. Laloo, Medical Officer in-charge Khliehriat CHC, Dr. Iohbor Rymbai, Manager-CSR, Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, Kingshok K. Borah, and several others on Tuesday.

District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills, Dr. E.B.V. Laloo, highlighted in her speech during the programme several ways and means that patients can practice at home to prevent the spread of tuberculosis to other family members.

She also said that malnutrition may also lead to the stimulation of microbes that can cause TB disease, even as she urged the patients to regularly take their dosage of medicines as instructed by the concerned health supervisors in the interest of their health and well-being. She also underscored that three months of medication is not enough for TB patients to recover.

Furthermore, she also dwelt at length on various schemes that provide financial assistance to TB patients during their medication period; for instance, the Nikshay Poshan Yojana Scheme, through which financial assistance of five hundred rupees per month is extended to all TB patients registered under this scheme until the completion of their treatment.

Additionally, she also expressed her sincere gratitude to the staff and the entire administration of Star Cement Limited for sponsoring the food items that are being distributed to the patients and called upon community members to cooperate with the concerned health centres to eliminate TB from the community.

Meanwhile, Manager-CSR, Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, Kingshok K. Borah, spoke on matters relating to TB patients, even as he stated that he was happy to see the decline in the number of TB patients in the district from time to time. He also emphasised that Star Cement Limited, Lumshnong, is committed to providing all possible assistance to TB patients in the East Jaintia Hills District.

Others who spoke during the programme include Medical Officer in-Charge Khliehriat CHC, Dr. Iohbor Rymbai, and Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS), Linus Manner.

After the programme, packages of food items, including rice, mustard oil, eggs, etc., were distributed to more than 43 patients present on the occasion.
