Tura, July 14: The District Football Association (DFA) organised Tura Football League 1st Division matches kicked off on Monday at the Chandmari Artificial Football Turf. The opening day saw A. Balmikka GSC and Greenwood registered first win of the league.
The first match of the day saw A. Balmikka GSC secure a narrow 4-3 victory over Doreng Sporting. Doreng Sporting initially drew first blood with Tangbo Sangma finding the net in the 9th minute. However, A. Balmikka GSC quickly equalized in the 25th minute with a goal by Tengrik R Marak. They then took a decisive lead by the end of the first half, with Deborah M Sangma scoring in the 28th minute and Challiang M Sangma adding another in the 32nd minute.
After halftime, A. Balmikka GSC registered their fourth goal in the 54th minute, again through Challiang M Sangma. Despite struggling to convert other chances, Doreng Sporting managed to score two more goals in the 60th and 70th minutes, both by Sengkim Momin. Sengkim Momin received the game’s only yellow card in the 35th minute for a foul.
Second match saw Greenwood dominate Nothern United by 4-1. Greenwood opened the scoring in the 7th minute by Grapseng D Marak, however Northern United equalized in the 37th minute with a goal by Arieo Chingchak M Sangma. By the end of first half, Greenwood secured a lead with Chekam Tangrik B Marak finding the net in the 41st minute.
Chekam Tangrik B Marak scored another goal in the 66th minute of the second half, followed by Donebi S Sangma in the 71st minute. Northern United were unable to convert chances and failed to make a comeback.
A total of ten teams will vie for glory, split into two equally competitive groups, promising intense battles for football enthusiasts.
The next matches will be played on Tuesday, July 15. The first match will feature Araimile vs. Rongbrakgre SCC at 2:00 PM, followed by Sampalgre YC vs. Danakgre YC at 3:30 PM, both at the Chandmari Artificial Football Turf.
