Three BJP leaders quit in Wokha in a day

Wokha, July 2: The BJP in Nagaland’s Wokha district suffered a jolt on Thursday after three key office bearers resigned from their posts on the same day, triggering speculation within political circles.

The resignations are politically significant as Wokha is the home district of Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party leader Yanthungo Patton, who represents the 37th Tyui Assembly Constituency.

Among those who stepped down were Meribeni Ezung, Secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha Wokha Unit, and Pithunglo Ngullie, TreasurerBJP Mahila Morcha Wokha Unit. Both leaders resigned from their posts as well as from the party’s primary and active membership, citing personal reasons.

In separate letters submitted on July 1, the two leaders thanked the party organisation for the opportunities provided to them during their tenure.

Adding to the setback, N. Jenithung Lotha, President of the BJP’s 38th Assembly Constituency unit in Wokha, also tendered his resignation from the post.

However, unlike the two Mahila Morcha leaders, Lotha clarified that his decision was purely personal and not related to any party issues or differences with party leaders. He also stated that he would continue as a member of the BJP and serve the party in whatever way he could.

The simultaneous exit of the two Mahila Morcha office bearers and the 38th AC president has left key organisational positions vacant in the district unit.

Although all three leaders attributed their decisions to personal reasons, the resignations have generated considerable interest in political circles given their timing and the significance of Wokha in the BJP’s political landscape.

The BJP’s Wokha district unit had not issued any official statement on the resignations till the filing of this report.
