Shillong, July 15: Three persons were convicted and sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for committing offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In its judgment passed on July 10, the Special Judge (POCSO) Court, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, has convicted the three men – Raj Roy, Ashit Chanda, and Prasenjit Das – in connection with Sadar PS Case No. 266(09)2013.
The convicts have been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each for the offense punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
In default of payment of fine, they will face further imprisonment of six months.
Additionally, they have been sentenced to imprisonment and fines for offenses under Sections 12 and 17 of the POCSO Act and Section 506 of the IPC.
The sentence details include: 20 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 50,000 for offense under Section 6 of POCSO Act, 2 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000 for offense under Section 12 of POCSO Act, 10 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 20,000 for offense under Section 17 of POCSO Act and 2 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000 for offense under Section 506 IPC
All sentences will run concurrently.

This was informed by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem in a press statement issued on Tuesday.
