Shillong, June 25: Three persons have been arrested along with heroin in Shillong. They have been identified as Rohit Mattu, Ansh Sher Gill alias Suraj Gill and Raman Raina, ANTF SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said on Wednesday.

He stated that the I/C of the Cantonment Beat House, acting on source information, had detained Rohit Mattu in the Cantonment area, suspecting him of possessing contraband (heroin). Accordingly, S.I. Pradeep Das, H/C E. Lanong, and other staff were deputed to the Cantonment area to take necessary action.

Upon arrival near NEHA Transport, opposite the Cantonment Beat House, the team found Rohit Mattu holding a small red carton box. A body search was conducted by S.I. Pradeep Das and the ANTF team in the presence of independent witnesses. One soap case box containing heroin weighing 10.26 grams was recovered.

Further enquiry revealed that Rohit Mattu used to work for Ansh Sher Gill alias Suraj Gill at a hardware store in the Cantonment area near the Jowai Stand. He is alleged to be the main supplier of drugs in the Cantonment and adjoining areas and has reportedly been involved in illegal activities previously.

Suraj Gill was detained, and a preliminary enquiry revealed that he ran a hardware store in the Cantonment area to cover up his illegal business. He allegedly used Rohit Mattu, Raman Raina, and Rohit Honda to sell heroin in Shillong.

Raman Raina was also detained. Upon questioning, he stated that Suraj Gill had rented a house in the Raid Laban area in the name of Raman Raina and Rohit Honda. He further disclosed that heroin was kept in one of the cupboards in that house. A search of the rented premises led to the seizure of 15 soap case boxes containing heroin weighing 152.26 grams, in the presence of independent witnesses.

In total, 162.52 grams of heroin have been seized. Another accused, Rohit Honda, is currently absconding.
