Shillong, Sept 24: Minister in-charge Public Health Engineering (PHE) Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar on Friday said he would be making a tour of Garo Hills next month whereby he will also convene a meeting with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to discuss and find out ways and means to resolve the problem of water scarcity faced by the people of Tura.

During the just concluded Autumn session of the state Assembly, the minister had informed that the distribution network at present is being maintained by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

Tongkhar had also mentioned that there was a talk since 1995 that it would be better for the PHE to maintain the distribution network for Tura town but so far no decision has been taken on this.

“We will soon have a discussion with the GHADC to see whether the distribution network should be taken back by the PHE,” he had stated.
